Can Chocolate Chip Cookies Change the World?
- By Carolyn Trumble

Growing up in the United States, I always loved the comfort and taste of a chocolate chip cookie just out of the oven. So when I was asked by my fellow educators at the youth center/school I work in São Paulo, Brazil if I could teach the teens and teachers how to make cookies I responded with an excited YES. We spent two full days teaching 8 different classes of teens ranging from ages 12 to 18 how to make cookies. So begs the question can chocolate chip cookies change the world?
Cloth and gold: Cambodian university students talk big ideas
- By Maria Montello
In Cambodia, they say that women are like cloth and men are like gold. Whereas men who have relations with women can “wash off” and be as gold again, this is not the case for women. They are cloth—forever stained. Three blocks up the street from my house is a beer hall. Young women with painted faces, short skirts and impossibly high heels flank the entrance. Srei koich, “broken women”, the Khmer call them. Apparently, customers choose who they wish to sit at their table. The women drink with them and then who-knows-what.
Pay it Forward
- By Donna Stiglmeier
Good leadership exercises the principle of “Pay It Forward.” Basically, rather than “paying someone back” for their good deed (which expresses gratitude, but keeps the goodness contained, limited), instead, you pass on something good to yet a third person (or the next generation – parenthood comes to mind!). The goodness grows…and a better future is possible for many more people.
